Kid's Puzzle Organizer

I have been working on cleaning out my garage this week and decided that I needed to do something with all the boxes of puzzles. They take up a lot of space and when we want to play with them we have to pile them up and bring them inside.

I remember seeing an article some time ago about a mom that put the puzzles in bags to reduce the space they took up and I decided to give it a try.

I had a small crate in the garage that fit quart sized zip lock bags perfectly! I think it was from the Dollar Store.




















I had about 8 - 25 piece puzzles that I wanted to "de-box".



















I cut the top of the box off - the part with the picture. Then I placed that and the puzzle pieces in the bag.



















In the end I have a nice little crate that fits nicely on the shelf. Now when we want to play with the puzzles I can just grab the crate!

I liked the results so much that I did the same thing with several 100 piece puzzles that I also had in the garage!

Buying Fresh Local Produce

It is now Summertime! I LOVE fresh tomatoes. I really could live on them all summer. I grew up in the Pennsylvania Amish Country. Everywhere you went there were roadside stands with wonderful fresh produce, eggs and baked goods.

I recently returned from an extended trip back to PA and so I've been wondering, where you can go here in Indy for fresh locally grown produce?

Also, I have been taking some time off this summer (notice it is slow around here lately?), my stockpile is full, my freezer is full and so I've been on a coupon fast and trying to spend most of my grocery budget on fresh fruits and vegetables. I've been dipping into the stockpile for the rest - isn't that what you have one for? Not just to admire your 16 roasts - right?

You know, there are times when I work hard on my stockpile and other times that I just sit back and enjoy it and this summer is turning out to be the latter!

I would like to share with you several of the markets I know about or have shopped at in Indianapolis and would like for you to add to my list and comment with what is worth going for at the markets you like!

One thing to keep in mind when you shop a farm market is that - just because it is there does NOT make it local produce. I am very leery of any produce in an official looking box - chances are it came from a vendor - there is a HUGE difference between vine ripened tomatoes and the ones shipped in from some far away place! Look carefully - I usually pass over anything with the produce stickers you see at the grocery store!

Here is my list!

Anderson Orchard - Southeast Indy - Pleasant View area

Anderson's had great apples I especially love the Mutsu! They have yummy frozen cider slushies! I reccomend that you go NOW for the best slushie! They are serving the cider that was frozen from the end of last season - that is the best of the best in cider flavors! And the large slushie is only $1.00 the small is $.50.

They should have apples ready for picking in about 2-3 weeks! Currently there were Tennessee Tomatoes and some peaches for sale.















Tuttles Orchard - East of Indy

Fun place to visit. Looking at their website they have a lot of fresh produce for sale. I think I will go there next week!




















Waterman's Farm Market - Southeast Indy - Raymond, west of Franklin

This is our favorite in the fall with the pumpkin patch!

Copelands Farm Market - Near the corner of County Line and Five Points Road just inside the Marion County line - (near Johnson County.)

Cumberland Farmers Market, 11501 E. Washington St., Cumberland; 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays

Greenwood Farmer's Market - Saturday's 8 a.m. to noon. In the West parking lot of the Greenwood Library.

??? Greenfield Farm Market - Wednesdays in the town square - 8 -12. (Can anyone confirm this?)

Garden Goodies

My poor little garden hasn't done much this year so far. I put it in a bit late because the garden plot was very wet from all the rain. Finally, we are getting some goodies from the garden.

This morning I was able to get:

1 Large trash bag full of weeds =)
Cherry Tomatoes
Hot Pepper
BIG Cucumber
Yellow wax beans



















I'm looking forward to a lot of tomatoes - hopefully! I could live on garden fresh tomatoes! I had to pull out a few rows of beans that were just duds. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I might still plant? It is a space about 2 feet x 3 feet.

We've had a few of the cukes so far this year and they are so good! I can't believe how big they got fast!

Macy's Sales

I was at Macy's a few days ago and noticed that they have many of the summer item marked 40 - 70% off. I have found this to be a great way to get quality item for the 2 kids by buying a year ahead.

If I only pay $2-3 an outfit for brand name items I have found that I can often resell them at my yard sales for close to the amount that I paid for them - as long as they are in good condition. In this way I can - almost - clothe the kiddos for nearly free!

IMCPL Book Sale - Half Price Day

Friday from 12 noon until 7:30 pm the IMCPL library will be having a 1/2 price used book sale. Book sales are held at the Library Services Center.

You cannot take strollers or carts into the center, so keep this in mind. I suggest taking a heavy duty canvass bag. I have a bag with wheels, that is not a "cart" so I use that when I go.

Have You Joined Swagbucks?

4th of July Activites

The Eiteljorg Museum will be free from 10 - 5 on July 4th! For more activities for the 4th of July go here.

Also - the basement level of the Eiteljorg has educational materials and fun things for children and is always free! Enter from canal level to enjoy this area!

This picture was taken in this lower area! There is also a fun stage coach and some dress up clothes. I believe on Saturdays they also have a craft set up.
