Indianapolis Zoo - Community Tuesday 9/1/09 - $7.00 Admission
Tomorrow is Community Tuesday at the Indianapolis Zoo and admission is only $7.00. This is half off the regular adult admission.
If you've been wanting to see the zoo - the weather is predicted to be beautiful again tomorrow! So, pack a lunch and spend the day!
If you can't make it tomorrow there are 3 more Community Tuesdays planned for 2009: October 6, November 3, and December 1.
Also, you can visit Indianapolis area "Old National Bank" locations for $2.00 off coupons. I would doubt that you would be able combine that with the Community Tuesday pricing, but if you would like to go another day it could help save some $.

Money Saving Mom has some match-up links here. If I find some good links I will come back here and add them too.

Sunday Meditations
Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised.
The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.

Tip - Maximize your Savings - Minimize your Time
When I teach a Savvy Savings class, I occasionally get a comment from someone who says that they don't have the time or the desire to make multiple shopping trips during the week. That they only want to go to one store. So, what can you do if this is your situation? Here are 2 solutions for you to consider.
Solution #1 - Only shop one store
If you are genuinely time pressed and have only enough time for 1 trip, I suggest that you take advantage of Wal-Mart's price matching policy. Wal-Mart will match any advertised competitor's price. You will need to bring the ad with you and it will need to be current. Wal-Mart will not match double coupons or % off sales. If you will look at all the current sales papers you can do pretty well this way, but you will spend more. Some Wal-Mart stores will also accept competitors coupons.
Solution #2 - Work your shopping into other errands or trips out.
At the beginning of the week (or even Saturday night - if you picked up the Saturday edition of the Sunday Star) find 15 minutes to take a look at the deals -especially those at CVS and Walgreens.
Make a list of the items you would like, pull the coupons and place the list for the store and the coupons in the envelope for that store. Place envelope in coupon box. (I keep an envelope for each store that I shop at in my coupon box.)
I always keep my coupon box in the car and that way if I can find a few minutes while we are on the way to do something else - I can make a quick stop in for the items I want. I find the best time for me to do this is when my hubby is along. I can dash in get the items and leave the kids in the car with him. It is much faster than me and the kids going in together.
If you work outside the home maybe you could find 15 minutes on lunch or going to or from work to make a quick stop. If you are prepared ahead of time with your list and coupons it is much faster.
The amount of money you can save by taking advantage of the weekly deals at CVS and Walgreens quickly adds up and is well worth the time to make a stop!
Update:
After I posted these tips, I thought of a few more things to add.
After the grocery ads come out on Thursday, I take a few minutes to look over them make my list and put it in the coupon box too. I do like to limit my grocery shopping to one store - unless there are deals too good to pass up.
If I find a week that there are really no items on sale that I need - I just make a quick stop to Aldi for the essentials.

Grandma's Zucchini Bread
Any day that you stop by her house she will probably be baking something - for someone else or crocheting a gift for someone special. She's always ready to play a game with the grandchildren or great grandchildren and although I don't get to see her very much anymore because I live 10 hours away from her, her house is one of my favorite places to go.
At 88 she is still one of the best cooks I know and just loves to do special things for her family. She has been blessed with over 50 grandchildren, great grandchildren and even 1 great-great grandchild! I thank God for giving us such a wonderful grandma and giving her so many years with us!
One of Grandma's specialties is Zucchini bread. Her's is just the best ever. It is very moist and yummy! I thought you might like to have this wonderful recipe.
Grandma's Zucchini Bread
In the blender or food processor mix:
3 eggs
3 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup cooking oil
2 cups grated zucchini
2 cups sugar
Puree this in blender or food processor.
In another bowl add:
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
3 teaspoon cinnamon
Add wet mixture into dry ingredients, mix well by hand or with hand mixer. Divide into 2 loaf pans, Bake @ 350 for 55-60 minutes. If it browns quickly cover with foil at the end. Test with toothpick.
Note: Since you are going to puree the zucchini in the blender or food processor there is no need to remove the seeds. You can use the whole zucchini! Also, if you use the smaller foil loaf pans you can get 3 loafs from this recipe and the cooking time will be reduced by about 10 minutes.

Apple Picking Has Started at Anderson Orchard in Pleasantview - Our Bag of Apples .52 cents /lb
Today we took some time to go out to Anderson Orchard - one of our favorite places to visit. They have great apples, the best apple cider slushies, apple cobbler and corn dogs. Today we went to pick a few apples and get some apple cider slushies for the kids.
We decided to pick only a small bag of apples since it is the beginning of the picking season and the apples will improve as the season goes on. We chose the $4.00 1/2 peck bag. We filled our bag with a variety of the apples that are now ready.
When I got home I decided to weigh or apples and see if apple picking was economical as well as a fun time for us! We picked over 7 lbs of apples and that would make our apples cost only .52 cents a lb. What a great deal and we had a great time too.
After going to the orchard, we go around the corner to Southeastway park. The park has a wonderful shaded playground and swings. The kids had a great time! There are also nice picnic areas, grills for cooking out and pavilions at the park. There are also a lot of paths for walking.
You can reach Anderson Orchard easily from I-74, for directions go here.

Sunday Meditations
I have a strong, a perfect plea,
A great High Priest, whose name is love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven in His hands,
My name is written on His heart;
I know that, while in heav'n He stands,
No tongue can bid me thence depart.
When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within, I look
Up ward above and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Saviour died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God the Just is satisfied
To look on Him, and pardon me.
Behold Him there! the risen Lamb!
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I Am,
The King of glory and of grace!
One with Himself, I cannot die,
My soul is purchased by His blood;
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ, my Saviour and my God.

Coupon Preview 8/22/09
There are 3 scheduled inserts for this weekend.
There are a few good coupons this week - but nothing I really need for my pantry or stockpile so I will be taking a week off coupon cutting. I highly recommend that you utilize the coupon previews in determining the true value of the papers for the weekend. If you look each week BEFORE buying your papers you can stock up on the good weeks and take off on the slow weeks.
TIP: It is not necessary to clip coupons EVERY week in order to reap big saving from coupons.
I would normally buy around 4-6 papers depending on the coupons. In determining when to buy papers, I ask myself - will I reap, at least, double the cost of the papers ($8-$12) in savings? If not, it's not worth the time I will spend cutting and sorting.
This is a week that has only a few ones I could use - pasta, yogurt and mascara but what I would save on those few coupons will not make it worth the purchase this week , so this week is a pass!
If you would like to see the complete list of this week's coupons go here.
Here are my favorites.
Smart Source
Colgate Visible White Toothpaste, any $1 (9/12/09)
Glade Sense & Spray Starter Kit $4 (10/03/09)
Ocean Spray Instant Oatmeal, 12.1oz box $1 DND (10/31/09)
Ritz Crackerfuls Filled Crackers FREE up to $3.49 wyb Ritz Crackers (11-30-09)
Yoplait Delights Yogurt Multipack $1 (10/17/09)
For more printable Smart Source coupons go here.
Red Plum
Advil, 40ct+ $1 (10/31/09)

For more printable Red Plum coupons go here.

Tip - Recycle Your $
You know, it's always good when you can use something more than once before you have to part with it - especially when it is your money. I like when I can use mine twice (or more) before I say "bye-bye" to it.
So, how can you do that? Spending $ is usually a once and done thing - unless you know the tricks that will let you use it again and again!
This week at Walgreens there is a "Money Recycle" deal going on that will help you to use your $ twice!
Softsoap Nutri Serum body wash is on sale for $3.99 and you will receive a $4.00 Register Reward (RR) when you buy 1. Here in Indianapolis, I had to pay $4.27 including tax.
If you then use that $4.00 RR to buy some things that you would have gotten at the grocery store anyway, you've actually used your $4.00 twice before you kissed it good-bye.
I spent my $4.00 on milk and Kleenex that were on sale - 2 things I needed to buy anyway. I chose items that would not cost me more at Walgreens - in fact with the sale and a coupon I only paid .75 a box for the Kleenex!
Remember at Walgreens if you want to do more than 1 RR deal - you must ring each up seperately and you cannot pay for a RR purchase with a RR.
Happy Recycling!

Kmart - Today's Trip $6.87
Here is what I got for $6.87. I saved over $25. I am glad to be stocked back up on cat food. I stopped by a regular Kmart today - not the Super Kmart. I found that the Cat food was on sale there for $3.99 - making it free with a coupon. The Super Kmart's price was $4.99 making it $1.00.
If you have any of the Kraft coupons left - that were printed a few months back you can get some good deals with them. BBQ sauce was a $1.11 money maker (it was $1.00 and it doubled even though the sauce was only.89) and the Mac & Cheese was only .50 cents.
2 Walmart Deals
Huggies flushable wipes for $1.64 - there was a coupon out recently for $3.00 off 2 making them .14 each. I like to keep these in the diaper bag - since the package is small. (These are in HBA near the Pharmacy - not in the baby department)
Hellman's mayo - on sale at Kroger through Wednesday for $2.49. I price matched the Kroger's price - but Wal-Mart's had a bonus size jar and I had a coupon for $1.00 off 2 making them only $1.99 a jar. I found these jars in the seasonal grocery aisle - not on the mayo aisle.
Staples Deals
Staples has some great deals on printer paper right now. After Easy Rebate it is only $1.00 - there is a limit of two.
I got the composition books for .25 each (limit 5 - on sale through Wednesday) and the erasers for $1.00.
You can check out more Staples deals at Budget Saving Mom.

I Need a Button - Can Anyone Help Me?
But there is one task where I just seem to hit a wall every time I try to tackle it! And that is a blog button. I have tried in my Paint program to design a reasonably nice button. Honestly, all the ones I've made really look bad. No make that REALLY BAD!
So, I've decided to ask you for help. Is there a fellow blogger or a faithful reader out there who knows anything about blog buttons? I'd love to have some cute little button for the blog - but alas I just have no talent whatsoever for blog button making. I wish it were as easy as making some cookies - or snagging a good CVS deal!
If you don't know what a blog button is here are a few examples:
If anyone can help me out - or recommend a good button maker leave a comment of email me at Frugalindy@gmail.com
Kmart Super Double Coupon Sale - Trip #1 $ 4.62
I made a quick trip to Kmart today for my 10 coupons worth. In some ways it is easier since they made the 10 coupon rule - I pull my coupons ahead of time, along with a few back-ups and can run in and out in a few minutes. It also means multiple trips, but since I live only about 5 minutes away from the Super Kmart, that is not too bad!
Here is what I got today for $4.62 - I saved over $29.00!
I had coupons for everything except the wipes - which were $1.00. I thought I'd try them to see if they were okay for the diaper bag.
Money Saving Mom has a good list of freebies and links here. I used printable coupons for many of the items and you can find the link there.

Up to $100 in Kmart Gift Cards - with transferred RX's
On the back of this week's grocery circular from Kmart there is a coupon for up to $100 in Kmart Gift Cards $25 for each transferred RX. There are some qualifications with this such as the reimbursed insurance value of the RX must be more than the gift certificate amount. I would expect that the Pharmacist can check on this before you fill the RX.
This could be a really big money saver if you have monthly prescriptions!
Kmart Double Coupons 8/16-22/09
Kmart is having their double coupon sale next week. They will double coupons up to $2.00. They seem to always add a new stipulation every time they run this sale! So, here are the current rules:
10 Coupons per customer per day
1 coupon per item
4 of the same items with double coupon
Must purchase $25 of grocery and drugstore merchandise
You really need to check out these blogs to get the best deals at Kmart!

Cash Organizer
Here are some links to those organizers.
The Crown Financial organizer can be found here.
And my current favorite, Dave Ramsey's Deluxe Wallet Envelope System can be found here. Unfortunately it looks like it is temporarily out of stock.
I like to use a cash organizer because it makes budgeting so much easier! When the envelope is out of cash - well you just can't spend!
If you would like an easy way to get started - get a coupon organizer from the dollar store and label it with your categories and amounts. It's not as pretty as the wallet - but it will work!
