My Favorite Blogs #2

A little while ago I told you about one of my favorite blog resources at BeCentsable.net - their feature The Grocery Gathering.  If you did not get to read that post go here to check it out.

Today, I want to talk about the one blog that has helped me the most to learn to live in a more frugal fashion -  Money Saving Mom.   Crystal's blog was quite possibly the first money saving blog I ever read (and that was before I even knew what a blog was.)  She taught me a lot about CVS through her CVS 101 and CVS Q & A.

So, if by chance you have not heard about Money Saving Mom, or have never stopped by to check her blog out- I highly recommend that you add her to you daily reading list!

Here are a few other blogs you will find in my Bloglines reader:

Freebies 4 Mom  - self explanatory name!

The Simple Dollar   - straight forward financial talk.

I Heart CVS - check here for links to CVS Coupons

Coupon Cravings - deals, coupons and free items

I have quite a few more in my blog reader (Bloglines).  But that is a few you might like to check out!

If you are not using a blog reader service, I highly recommend that you do.  It is so handy that I wonder how I did it before I signed up!  My reader of choice is Bloglines,  but I'm sure there are other good ones out there!

If you are not familiar with readers,  you just enter in the blogs you want to "read" into your reader page.  Every time there is a "post" to one of your blogs, it will come up in your reader.  It makes it easy to stay on top of deals and coupons that way with out clicking around to a ton of websites!

Google Reader and Bloglines seem to be 2 favorite readers.  Do you use a reader?  Subscribe to Frugal Indy in your reader or go here.

Happy 200th Birthday President Lincoln!

Today we are celebrating the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln.  If you would like a coloring picture of President Abraham Lincoln, here are a few good sites to check.

Crayola coloring page   - this is a very nice picture of Lincoln!

More Lincoln Sheets:  Here,  here,   here and here.

Lincoln pages with various scenes from Lincoln's life here.

Some Civil War coloring pictures are here.

Lots of great coloring pages here including the Lincoln Memorial.

Are you getting ready for President's Day next week?

Here are some good President's Day Coloring sheets and activities.

Here is a coloring book you can print with the first 43 presidents.

Here is a coloring picture of President Obama you can add to the book.

My 5  year old son has been working on learning the names of the Presidents and I promised him that if he would learn them all I would post a video of him singing them for you.   He has worked hard to learn this and so here it is for you!

If you would like to learn the names of the 44 Presidents, here are the words to the song.

The 44 Presidents Song

Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison,
Monroe, Adams, Jackson, VanBuren,
William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Polk and Taylor,
Filmore, Pierce, Buchanan.

Lincoln, Johnson, Grant, Hayes,
Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Harrison,
Cleveland, McKinley, Teddy Roosevelt,
Taft and Woodrow Wilson.

Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, FDR,
Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ,
Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan,
Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama.

It works pretty well if you sing it in a peppy way.  My son like to shout it out when he gets to "William Henry Harrison" and also at "FDR" and "LBJ".  To make the last line work you have to add an extra beat.  It works if you slow the last line down a lot and start on the same note you ended with on "Reagan".

I think for the first time in my life I can say the Presidents.  I'm actually surprised how easily we learned them this way!

If you know any good resources for President's Day, share them with us in the comments below.

Not for Sale

Award-winning journalist David Batstone reveals the story of a new generation of 21st century abolitionists and their heroic campaign to put an end to human bondage. In his accessible and inspiring book, Batstone carefully weaves the narratives of activists and those in bondage in a way that not only raises awareness of the modern-day slave trade, but also serves as a call to action.

More about "Not for Sale".

Not For Sale: The Return of the Global Slave Trade and How We can Fight It, by David Batstone, is a powerful book that is sure to touch your heart and motivate you to action.

The book originated from Batstone's encounter with modern-day slaves in his hometown of San Francisco. A local restaurant he frequented for several years was exposed as a trafficking ring for children from India. This shocking incident sent him on a search, domestically and abroad, to get to the bottom of the issue.
