Have a Blessed Easter - Sunday Meditations

I hope that you will have a wonderful Easter. Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Christ. It is the basis of the Christian faith. As we read in I Corinthians, without the resurrection of Christ there is no hope for us. Praise to God that Christ is risen and we celebrate that today!

I Corinthians 15

But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Sunday Meditations

Psalm 36:5-8

Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

Sunday Meditations

A few weeks ago in church we sang the song "Jesus, I Am Resting", my son who is 6 told me that it is his new favorite song and so we've been singing it during school time - I love to hear him sing it, it is so sweet! The (almost) 2 year old chimes in too with her own version of the words.

Here are the first 2 verses. For the complete words to this and many other hymns go here.

Jesus, I Am Resting. Words by: Jean S. Piogott

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power
Thou hast made me whole.

Refrain:
Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.

Oh, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
Oh, how marvelous Thy goodness,
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee, Beloved,
Know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
And have made it mine.

Enjoy a blessed day of rest today!

Sunday Meditations

For the Beauty of the Earth

Folliot S. Pierpoint

For the beauty of the earth,
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For thyself, best Gift Divine,
To the world so freely given,
For that great, great love of thine,
Peace on earth, and joy in heaven:
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise.

Sunday Meditations

Psalm 127

Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Psalm 113

Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.

Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised.

The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.

Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,

Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;

That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.

Sunday Meditations

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea,
A great High Priest, whose name is love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me.

My name is graven in His hands,
My name is written on His heart;
I know that, while in heav'n He stands,
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within, I look
Up ward above and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin.

Because the sinless Saviour died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God the Just is satisfied
To look on Him, and pardon me.

Behold Him there! the risen Lamb!
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I Am,
The King of glory and of grace!

One with Himself, I cannot die,
My soul is purchased by His blood;
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ, my Saviour and my God.

Song of Solomon 2:16

My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

Song of Solomon 6:2

My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.

Matthew 6:28

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

Luke 12:27

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Sunday Meditations

On Friday of this week, we had the opportunity to go to the Creation Museum just over the border in Kentucky (not far from Cincinnati). We really enjoyed the beautiful botanical gardens and petting zoo, both located on the grounds of the museum.

If you have the chance to go I recommend that you do so. I would not go on a weekend if I could go during the week - because the Creation Museum can get pretty busy. I highly suggest that you see the planetarium. It is amazing - especially the Created Cosmos. It will make you realize how small we are here on earth - compared to the rest of what's out there!

Here are a few pictures from the incredible botanical gardens. Our 6 year old LOVED the suspension bridges! (Don't worry - there's regular paths for strollers and wheelchairs!)

Genesis 2:2-15

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Psalm 19:1-4

The heavens declare the glory of God;and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Day unto day uttereth speech,
and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

There is no speech nor language,
where their voice is not heard.

Their line is gone out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun...

Romans 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen... even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Sunday Meditations

O Be Saved - by Fanny J. Crosby

Sinner, how thy heart is troubled!
God is coming very near;
Do not hide thy deep emotion,
Do not check that falling tear.

Refrain:
O be saved, His grace is free!
O be saved, He died for thee!
O be saved, He died for thee!

Jesus now is bending o'er thee,
Jesus lowly, meek and mild;
To the friend who died to save thee
Wilt thou not be reconciled?

Art thou waiting till the morrow?
Thou may'st never see its light;
Come at once! accept His mer cy:
He is waiting— come tonight!

With a lowly, contrite spirit,
Kneeling at the Saviour's feet,
Thou canst feel, this very moment,
Pardon— precious, pure and sweet.

Let the angels bear the tidings
Upward to the courts of heav'n;
Let them sing, with holy rapture,
O'er another soul forgiv'n!

Sunday Meditations

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flow'r that opens,

Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning
That brightens up the sky.

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them ev'ry one:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water
We gather ev'ry day:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well:

Sunday Meditations

I've been wondering if I should start on an ark! It seems like we've had rain for 40 days and 40 nights! It's made me think of Noah, I'm thankful for the promise of the rainbow!

Genesis 7: 9-12

There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.

And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

Genesis 9:12 - 17

And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

All Glory Laud and Honor

All glory, laud, and honor, To Thee, Redeemer, King,

To Whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring:
Thou art the King of Israel, Thou David's royal Son,
Who in the Lord's name comest, The King and blessed One.

O Lord, how shall I meet Thee, How welcome Thee aright?

Thy people long to greet Thee, My Hope, my heart's Delight!
Oh, kindle, Lord, most holy, Thy lamp within my breast
To do in spirit lowly All that may please Thee best.

Thy Zion strews before Thee Green boughs and fairest palms,
And I, too, will adore Thee With joyous songs and psalms.
My thankful heart shall ever Sing praise to Thee anew;
And from Thy name shall never Withhold the honor due.

What tho' the foes be raging, Heed not their craft and spite;
Your Lord, the battle waging, Will scatter all their might.
He comes, a King most glorious, And all His earthly foes
In vain His course victorious Endeavor to oppose.

Proverbs 21:20

In the house of the wise

are stores of choice food and oil,

but a foolish man devours all he has.

Why is it important to have an extra supply in your home? Even if there were no other reasons, the most important reason is that God has told us in His Word that a wise man has stores of choice food and oil. God's Word tells us that we should not use all that we have, that is the actions of a fool.

I can really see the wisdom in this instruction. Being prepared for the unforeseen, helps prevent worry and fear. With the uncertainty of our economy, the seeming panic that is being stirred up by the constant media coverage of the swine flu, there is enough fear in our country!

It would be a wise action, as we read in the book of Proverbs, to have extra stores of food in your home. That way, if there is a layoff in your home, or a general quarantine imposed upon us, or some other unseen situation, you will have no reason to panic, knowing your family will be well fed.
